No. It is technically optional. You can ignore it and keep playing your current raider, but you will miss out on permanent bonuses.

Many players choose to ignore the first few cycles while they learn the game. There is no penalty for not participating, other than the opportunity cost of missing the rewards.

Not exactly. It’s a character wipe tied to your account. It doesn’t reset the entire game world or other players—only your raider within the rules of the Expedition system. Other players who choose not to reset will keep their gear.

Once you confirm your departure at the terminal, your character is gone. There is no undo button. Make sure you are 100% ready before you commit.

You lose almost everything attached to your specific character:

• Character Level and XP
• All Weapons, Armor, and Gadgets
• Your entire Stash contents
• Most crafting blueprints

Your account-level progress is safe:

• Cosmetics: Skins, emotes, banners.
• Currencies: ARC Coins (premium currency).
• Map Knowledge: Unlocked zones and map data.
• Permanent Bonuses: Any rewards from previous Expeditions.

It depends. If you only play a few hours a week, the "re-grind" might feel punishing. However, the permanent XP boost you get from the first reset can actually help casual players level up faster in the future.

The Expedition cycle is approximately 8 weeks (60 days). You cannot reset mid-cycle. You must wait for the "Departure Window" which opens in the final days of the cycle.

Ideally, you want to start preparing about 2 weeks before the cycle ends. This gives you enough time to liquidate your stash and maximize your "Wealth Score" for better rewards.
